Typical Cavapoo Size Guidelines

Before considering a dog bed to purchase, it is essential to first acquaint yourself with the size and weight of your Cavapoo. It is customary for a Cavapoo to fit an extra small to small dog bed, but there are occasions when a medium-sized dog bed is more suitable.

By and large, Cavapoos are considered a small size dog breed. Size can vary based on the Cavapoo’s genes, parents, and diet, but typically, they weigh no more than 25 pounds (11 kilograms).

The Cavapoo’s size is primarily determined by its Poodle parent.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is typically bred with a mini or toy Poodle. Toy Cavapoos usually weigh around 7 to 13 pounds (3 to 5.8 kilograms) after 11 months, and mini Cavapoos can weigh anywhere between 13 and 25 pounds (5.8 to 11 kilograms) by adulthood.

Female Cavapoos have also been known to be marginally smaller than their male brothers. This, however, is not always the case.

Do Weight and Size Affect Dog Bed Size?

Dog beds come in various sizes and shapes, so choosing a bed that fits your Cavapoo comfortably is essential. Most beds will display a weight guide to assist you in choosing either a small, medium, or large bed.

An extra small-sized dog bed is recommended for a dog of 1 to 10 pounds (0.5 to 4.5 kilograms). A small bed is usually suitable for a dog weighing between 11 and 25 pounds (5 to 11 kilograms). A medium bed is best suited for a dog weighing approximately 25 to 50 pounds (11 to 22 kilograms).

How To Measure Your Cavapoo

Measuring and weighing your Cavapoo before purchasing a dog bed is highly recommended.

Taking your Cavapoo to the local pet shop to try their new bed is usually not feasible or even permitted. Consequently, having the measurements and weight on hand makes the shopping experience much more straightforward.

The best way to measure the length and width of your Cavapoo would be to use a measuring tape. Measure from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail.  Make certain they stand as still as possible to ensure a reliable measurement.

You may also want to measure your Cavapoo from shoulder to shoulder to get an idea of their width.

Adding 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 centimeters) to the length and width measurements will ensure that you look for dog beds that provide enough wiggle room.  Don’t forget to allow enough space on the bed for your Cavapoos favorite toy.

Other Important Factors to Consider When Choosing a Dog Bed

It is advisable to monitor your Cavapoos behavior when at home to try to identify what bed preference they are likely to have.

The Stretcher

You may have noticed that your dog enjoys stretching out in various directions when sleeping. If so, consider purchasing a rectangular-shaped bed, pillow bed, or a slightly larger donut-shaped to give them the space to move around.

The Squeezer

On the other hand, if your Cavapoo likes to curl up into a tiny ball on your lap or on the couch, they will most likely prefer a smaller donut-shaped or round bolster bed.

The Snuggler

Some dogs try to sneak under a blanket, jersey, or under your bed covers. This type of dog most definitely enjoys comfort and luxury. A dome-shaped bed or a pillow with soft blankets will be heaven for them!

The Leaner

Some dogs fancy having their heads raised when resting. If your Cavapoo is forever leaning its head against you or on the side of the couch, a bolster bed would be an ideal solution to provide the support they crave.

Keep an eye on your Cavapoo’s likes and dislikes and where in the house they enjoy sleeping so that a suitable bed selection can be made. Keep in mind that the dog bed size may also be partly determined by the space available in your home.

Puppy Bed Considerations

It is not always necessary to purchase a smaller dog bed for your puppy Cavapoo. Despite this, it may not be the worst idea, if you don’t mind the added expense.

Puppies often feel more secure and comforted when sleeping in a smaller bed. A round, donut-shaped bed usually works nicely.

Some owners found that a fluffy bed helped keep their young Cavapoos at ease by reminding them of the comfort they had when they snuggled with their mother. This is especially good if your puppy displays any signs of anxiety.

Adult and Senior Cavapoo Dog Bed Options

Before purchasing a new dog bed, is it essential to consider the health condition of your Cavapoo?

As dogs age, they can suffer from stiff joints that make a high or very soft bed challenging to maneuver in and out of. Converse to this, some older dogs suffering from arthritis prefer a trampoline bed as it helps keep the cold away from their already stiff joints.

A larger bed is usually better for an older Cavapoo as it provides additional space for them to move about and get comfortable.

Investing in an orthopedic or memory foam dog bed that is comfortable, firm, and with more support is often worth the expense.

Here are some great options for both your senior and adult Cavapoos.

Final Thoughts

Keep in mind the different seasons when it comes to your dog’s bed. During the cold of winter, my Cavapoo Coco loves nothing more than snuggling into a deeply cushioned bed that keeps her warm. While in summer she steers clear of the very warm bed and opts for somewhere cool, like the bare floor. Generally, though, she prefers something a little more cushioned. A thin blanket on a firmer dog bed is ideal in the warmer months of summer.
